ENERGY-EFFICIENT COOLING OF DATA CENTERS

08/02/2024

With the continued transition to online resources, it is increasingly easy to imagine a world without items such as books, DVDs, documents and calendars that we now access thanks to devices that fit in our pockets. Even more amazingly, most of this information doesn't even exist on these devices, relying solely on a connection to cloud-based services.
Even if these objects are not visible, however, they still occupy physical space, albeit in a different form - cabinets with servers that constantly transmit and store information. At first glance, organizing such a data center seems simple. All that is needed is to arrange the server cabinets, install some kind of cooling system and connect the company to the new network.
Data centers need a lot of energy to process data and cool their hardware. Optimizing energy consumption and improving the performance of data centers is very important. It is only when data center planning begins that one realizes how complex a task it really is. Like all electronic devices, servers and networking equipment generate heat. Unlike smaller electronic devices, however, the heat that servers give off cannot be dissipated with a simple fan. Cooling these large-scale centers requires a significant level of organization and the application of advanced scientific concepts. The operation of the equipment and the cooling system requires significant amounts of electricity. The successful design of power and cooling systems will help reduce energy consumption and reduce the carbon footprint of the data center.
